CONSTRUCTION OF OUTFALL CHANNEL STRUCTURE IN
MANJUNG POWER STATION, SITIAWAN PERAK

The cooling water outfall channel is situated south of the Lekir Coastal Reclamation island, measuring about 200m x 180m, which is formed by construction of rock revetment (rip-rap construction) using 0.3T-1T and 1T-3T armour rocks. The excavated levels for sand profiles before rocks are laid, are at -2m ACD for inner basin area, and at -4m ACD for outer basin (as shown above). It is noted here that the thickness of rock laid is approximately 2m throughout the outfall channel structure.
Six (6) major operations in this project are:
- Sand excavation
- Removal of existing Slope Protection Work (SPW)
- Construction of temporary rock bund
- Laying of geotextile fabric TS65
- Placing and pitching of underlayer and armour rocks
- Installation of PU12 steel sheetpile (total length150m) for wire
and construction of capping beam at approximately 1m ACD.
To facilitate the laying of geotextile fabric and placing of armour rock, a temporary rock bund (at +3m
ACD 260m level and 260m in length and 5m in width) was constructed in the circumference of the
outermost of the outfall channel structure facing sea front, as well as dewatering of seawater to -4mACD from area within the rock bund.
